The Greener Side Licences: Providing Excellence in The Circular Economy

The Greener Side operates under strict Environment Agency regulations to ensure that every toner cartridge, piece of WEEE waste, and IT asset is processed with the highest level of integrity, responsibility, and transparency.

Understanding Waste Exemptions

In order to provide a secure, legal, and sustainable recycling service for partners across the UK, we hold a number of key licences and exemptions that authorise the treatment, storage, and recovery of waste materials. These licences and exemptions also ensure that your waste is handled by experts who truly understand the complexities of the circular economy, and can determine the correct method of waste reduction is applied.

T16: The Treatment Of Waste Toner Cartridges

The T16 is the cornerstone of our remanufacturing and recycling operation, allowing us to legally treat and process your waste toner cartridges for recovery.

What It Means: We can dismantle, clean, and prepare your cartridges for reuse, ensuring they remain within the circular loop, rather than being discarded, or worse, sent to landfill.

The Benefits: This license provides the legal foundation for remanufacturing excellence, by enabling us to transform your waste into a high-quality, sustainable product.

T11: Repair Or Refurbishment Of WEEE

As specialists in Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), the T11 exemption allows us to legally repair, refurbish, and prepare items for reuse.

What It Means: From printers to laptops, The Greener Side have the authority to breathe new life into electronic assets and extend the product lifecycle.

The Benefits: The Greener Side and their partners ensure that IT hardware is diverted from the waste stream and supports ITAD (IT Asset Disposition) strategies that prioritise reuse over recycling.

S2: Storing Waste In A Secure Place

Security is paramount when handling corporate waste and IT assets. S2 exemption permits us to store waste securely before being treated or recovered.

What It Means: Your materials are kept in a controlled, safe environment, preventing contamination, while ensuring safety.

The Benefits: Gain peace of mind, knowing that your waste is accounted for, and protected throughout the reprocessing or recycling cycle.

T4: Preparatory Treatments (Baling, sorting, shredding, etc.)

T4 exemption enables The Greener Side to mechanically, and manually process waste streams in order to reduce volume, optimise handling, and prepare materials for future recovery or recycling.

What It Means: The Greener Side are legally authorised to sort, shred, bale, or compact specific recyclable materials – such as the plastic housings, cardboard packaging, and associated components from print consumables and IT assets directly at our facility.

The Benefits:This enables us to process bulk waste streams into highly dense, organised formats, drastically reducing the carbon footprint of transport, while ensuring zero contamination through precise segregation. This perfectly primes raw materials ready for their next phase in the circular economy.

Registered Waste Carrier, Broker, And Dealer (Upper Tier)

In addition to site-specific exemptons, The Greener Side is a Registered Waste Carrier, Broker, and Dealer.

This status is a legal requirement for any organisation that transports, buys, sells, or arranges for the disposal of controlled waste. By holding this registration, The Greener Side is authorised to:

Collect and transport waste directly from your premises. Broker waste solutions, ensuring that every link in the supply chain adheres to UK law. Buy and sell scrap or surplus consumables and equipment as part of a recovery scheme.
